Biography

Wendy Markosky is Professor of Music and music department co-chair at Burman University and she also serves as organist of the university church. Prior to coming to Burman, as a graduate student she was an associate instructor in of music theory department, music director/organist at two Presbyterian and Lutheran churches, studied harpsichord and carillon, and served as organist of Indiana University’s Beck Chapel. 

Dr. Markosky is active in concerts, adjudications, masterclasses and workshops. She has participated in the national Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) as a clinician, performer, and has been a jury member for several national RCCO organ competitions. She has presented workshops and recitals for the “Travelling Clinician” program of the RCCO, been a teaching faculty of the American “Pipe Organ Encounters” program, and done organ and harpsichord workshops for both adults and youth, as well as lecturing on various topics including baroque performance practice and ornamentation. During several summers she engaged in research, study, and performance on a number of important Baroque organs in north Germany and France. She has also done summer harpsichord studies in Austria and England. In addition to solo engagements as an organist and harpsichordist, Dr. Markosky regularly performs collaboratively with several early music groups in Alberta, and is organist/harpsichordist for the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and for Rosa Barocca Ensemble.

  • Collaborative performances in early music with Early Music Alberta series, Rosa Barocca ensemble, and Early Music Voices/Calgary series (harpsichord, organ)
  • Solo performances of Baroque through modern repertoire in Canada and the US (organ, harpsichord)
  • Research on seventeenth-century north German organist/composer Matthias Weckmann: stylistic and structural analysis of the free organ/harpsichord works
  • Adjudication (local, provincial, national festivals and RCCO certificates/diplomas)
  • Masterclasses (organ, harpsichord, Baroque keyboard fingering and technique, Baroque repertoire, hymn playing, church/concert repertoire, et al.)
