LACOMBE, AB – As of September 12, 2018, the Burman Bobcats basketball and volleyball teams have joined the Prairie Athletic Conference. The executive committee of the conference approved Burman University’s application for full membership. The Prairie Athletic Conference includes four teams in their basketball league and five teams in their volleyball league.

“We are excited that our basketball and volleyball teams will now be able to play in a competitive league,” says Ron Schafer, Athletics Director. “Our campus family looks forward to watching them compete again.”

The Athletics Department of Burman University submitted an application to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years. The application was rejected both times based on “scheduling limitations insisted by Burman University” (ACAC Conference Council Letter of Decision). The scheduling limitations are a result of the Seventh-day Adventist University’s belief to keep Friday sundown to Saturday sundown as the Sabbath.

Prior to the university’s application to ACAC and the Prairie Athletic Conference, the basketball and volleyball teams played in the Alberta College Athletic League (ACAL). While playing in ACAL, the men’s basketball team won gold in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015; the women's basketball team won silver in 2014 and 2015; the men’s volleyball team won silver in 2012 and 2013; and the women’s volleyball team won bronze in 2012 and 2013.

Schedules for the season will be released as soon as it is available. Burman University wishes the Burman Bobcats the best of luck this new season!
