Kevin Burell, Assistant Professor for Religious Studies
 


President Loren Agrey has appointed Kevin Burrell, Assistant Professor for Religious Studies, as Special Assistant to the President for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for Burman University. He assumed the position January 2019.

Burrell, a Burman University alumnus completed his Masters from Trinity Western University and his PhD from Stellenbosch University. His PhD dissertation concerns ethnicity in the Hebrew Bible and is entitled: "'From Beyond the Rivers of Cush': Negotiating Ethnic Identity and Cushite-Israelite Interrelations in the Hebrew Bible.

“Without question, Burman University has become one of the most diverse working environments in Central Alberta in recent years. This diversity is most pronounced in our student body (and increasingly so by our faculty and staff), who represent an array of cultural, social, and even religious backgrounds. By appointing a Special Assistant to the President for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion the administration of Burman University affirms the value and potential of our diverse university campus, and places high priority on ensuring an equitable and inclusive environment for all. It is my privilege to serve in this capacity in order to help our campus community achieve these important goals,” says Burrell.

President Agrey is pleased that Burrell has taken on this new opportunity, “I am excited that Dr. Burrell has accepted the role as Special Assistant for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for our campus. Burman is committed to providing leadership, guidance, and resources in support of our commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive institution."

His new responsibilities will see him lead the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee while he continues to teach in the Religious Studies program.
