Student Newspaper Wins Award

Burman University's student newspaper, The Chronicle, earned the Best Student Newspaper Design award at the Society of Adventist Communicators (SAC) Awards Banquet during the annual SAC conference held at La Sierra University this past week.

Emma Mowat, Chronicle Editor and Wellness major, expressed her excitement, "I am beyond honoured to receive this award! The newspaper is really my baby. I love working with my team to create something we're proud of every month; it brings me so much joy. To me, this award is so validating that yes, we are doing a good job!"

Judges praised The Chronicle for its creative design and interesting and relevant content for students. "Campus newspapers are now embracing a variety of formats, and the Chronicle is a great example of this.  We appreciated the mix of substantive thought pieces, event coverage, and lifestyle articles. The design is colourful and image-heavy, and thus takes advantage of its digital distribution format."

Over 250 people attended the annual Society of Adventist Communicators event, including 60 students and 15 university professors. The Adventist schools represented were Andrews University, Burman University, La Sierra University, Oakwood University, Pacific Union College, Southern Adventist University, Union Adventist University, and Walla Walla University.

The Society of Adventist Communicators recognizes excellence in communication across North America, supporting the professional development and networking of Christian communicators in various media fields.
