The Student Aid Bursary: Where Generosity Changes Trajectories
The Student Aid Bursary was created to address a growing reality at Burman University: many capable, committed students encounter financial strain after their first year when entrance scholarships have ended but their educational journey is only beginning.
![]() | Agatha Wall - Elementary EducationWhen Agatha Wall decided to pursue her degree, she was navigating unfamiliar territory. After spending hours struggling through complicated university applications elsewhere, she turned to Burman University almost as a final attempt. The application process was unexpectedly straightforward, and she was accepted quickly. Looking back, Agatha describes that moment as “a God thing.” Drawn to Burman’s Christian foundation and close-knit academic community, she knows she is here because God opened the right door at the right time. What she felt then was not simply relief. It was direction. Now in her third year of the Elementary Education program, Agatha has grown in both confidence and academic skill. When she began, even the mechanics of university life — academic writing formats, research expectations, and digital tools — were unfamiliar. Year by year, she has built those competencies, determined not just to pass, but to become the kind of teacher her future students will need. Financially, however, the journey has been precarious. Working part time at the campus library, Agatha relies on her earnings to help cover tuition, textbooks, groceries, transportation, insurance, and other basic living expenses. There are months when what she earns is not enough to meet those costs, let alone provide any cushion. Unexpected medical recovery, car repairs, or rising food prices quickly create anxiety. Receiving the Student Aid Bursary has provided tangible relief: the ability to purchase healthy groceries, meet essential payments, and remain focused on practicum and coursework. When she graduates and enters the classroom, Agatha intends to give back to the same fund that helped sustain her. For Agatha, the bursary represents stability and the opportunity to continue pursuing the calling God has placed before her. |
