The Government of Alberta Allocates $80,000 to Burman University for Student Mental Health Support
LACOMBE, AB – The Government of Alberta is investing $25.8 million over a three-year period to protect and improve mental health resources for post-secondary students at publicly funded institutions across Canada. $80,000 has been allocated to Burman University to increase and improve mental health support for its students.
“The government of Alberta’s investment in student mental health will contribute greatly to Burman University’s commitment to support students academically, physically, and mentally,” says Loren Agrey, president of Burman University. “This funding will provide students with quality mental health support that contributes to their overall success. We are proud to join the Government of Alberta in their efforts of building stronger and healthier university campuses in Alberta.”
Burman University currently offers mental health support to students through counseling by a trained therapist, partnerships with key organizations dealing with mental health, and programs featuring mental health experts and professionals. These avenues are organized by the university’s Student Success Centre.
“We want our students to know that we are here for them in all aspects: academically, physically, mentally, and emotionally,” says Wanda Johnson, Director of Counseling and Career Development at Burman University. “This increase in our overall funds will allow us to make that message very clear on campus.”
Student Services and the Student Success Centre will continue to explore opportunities to build stronger mental health support for students and will advise administration on steps moving forward.
