Scholarship Deferral

Entrance Scholarship Deferral Policy

First-Year, First-Time Students

An applicant who received an offer of Entrance Scholarship(s) but did not register for classes may defer their scholarship eligibility for up to one full academic year from the term for which they were initially accepted if they have submitted and received approval through the Scholarship Deferral Form.

  • A student who registers for classes within one full academic year from the term for which they were initially accepted:
    • Must complete the Scholarship Deferral Form and receive approval, and
    • Will not be required to re-apply for scholarships, and
    • Will not be re-evaluated for scholarship eligibility if any scholarship requirements have changed. 
  • A student who defers their enrolment more than one full academic year from the term for which they were initially accepted:
    • May need to re-apply for scholarships.
    • Will be re-evaluated and need to meet any new requirements if the scholarship eligibility criteria has changed.
       

Attended a different school?

If a student attends a different post-secondary institution and later chooses to enrol at Burman University, the student is considered a transfer student and any previously awarded Entrance scholarships are void. 

 

Returning Burman Students

A returning Burman University student who must delay attendance due to extenuating circumstances or participation in volunteer or humanitarian service may be eligible to defer their scholarships for up to one full academic year if they have submitted and received approval through the Scholarship Deferral Form.

  • A student who defers their enrolment more than one full academic year from the term for which they were initially approved may lose scholarship eligibility.
  • Donor funded awards can not be guaranteed to be eligible for deferral and can not be deferred for more than one full academic year.
  • Deferral is not available if a student attends a different post-secondary institution and later chooses to re-enroll at Burman University.
