General Scholarships

Available to all programs of study, no financial-need component


Eligibility Criteria for General Scholarships

  1. Must be a current full-time student with cum GPA of at least 2.0 and complete a minimum of 9 credits:
    • During the current and immediately preceding fall semester. OR
    • If returning after a break in full-time enrolment, have a previous Burman cum GPA of at least 2.0 with a minimum of 9 credits.
  2. Preference given to those who demonstrate accomplishment in:
    • Academic Achievement
    • Community Service
    • Campus Involvement
    • Program Participation
  3. Some awards may include additional criteria which are written below the award name.

Eligibility Criteria for the Program of Study-Specific Scholarships


  1. Must be a current full-time student with a cum GPA of at least 2.0 and complete a minimum of 9 credits:
    • During the current and immediately preceding fall semester. OR
    • If returning after a break in full-time enrolment, have a previous Burman cum GPA of at least 2.0 with a minimum of 9 credits.
  2. Preference given to those who demonstrate accomplishment in:
    • Academic Achievement
    • Community Service
    • Campus Involvement
    • Program Participation
  3. Must have completed a minimum of 30 credits by the end of the previous fall semester.
  4. Some awards may include additional criteria which are written below the award name.

Elvine Skoretz Scholarship for Future Entrepreneurs
  • Must be a Canadian citizen having completed 60 credits prior to May 1, 2023.
  • Must submit an essay for release to be read by the donor outlining:
    • Why the applicant requests the scholarship and how it will benefit the applicant; and
    • The applicant’s views of entrepreneurial and community service.

  • Must have a minimum 3.67 Burman cum GPA in all keyboard-related coursework.

  2. Preference given to those who demonstrate accomplishment in:

  3. Must have demonstrated financial need by utilization of available Canadian/US government student loans (see application for details) and have submitted a Notice of Assessment to Student Financial Services, and
  4. Must have completed a minimum of 30 credits by the end of the previous fall semester.

    Additional Information – How to receive your award:

    • Total award amount will be divided equally between the two semesters of the school year.
    • Recipient must attend full time for both semesters to realize the full value of any award.
    • The student must register for, and successfully complete, a minimum 60% course load (9 credits excluding PLAR & Audit credits) each semester. 
    • If a student withdraws below the minimum 60% course load all scholarships will be reversed for that term.
    • If you have an assessed disability status you may be eligible to receive scholarships at a 40% courseload or 6 credits per semester.  If you are going to be a December 2023 or an April 2024 graduate you may petition for special circumstances in your final term.
