Scholarships - AB Government
AB Scholarship Program (non-renewable)
Rutherford (Students up to 5 years from Gr. 12 Graduation)
Purpose: To recognize and reward academic achievement at the senior high school level and to encourage students to pursue post-secondary studies.
Value: Up to $2,500 one time award
Selection: Recipient must be an Alberta resident enrolled in full time post secondary studies. For specific course requirements and criteria, please refer to the Student Aid Alberta website.
Jason Lang Scholarship
Purpose: To reward the outstanding academic achievement of Alberta post-secondary students who are continuing full time in an undergraduate program in Alberta in the current school year.
Value: $1000 – unlimited nominations available
Selection: Recipients are nominated on the basis of achieving a minimum 3.2 term GPA while maintaining enrolment in at least 80 per cent of a full course load during both the previous fall and winter terms. Students must be Alberta residents.

Louise McKinney Scholarship
Purpose: To recognize exceptional academic achievement and encourage outstanding students to continue their studies at the post-secondary level
Value: $2500 – 9 nominations available
Selection: Recipients are nominated on the basis of achieving a minimum 3.75 GPA at 100% course load in the previous academic year(minimum 15 credits per term), and who are continuing full time in an undergraduate program in Alberta in the current school year.
Students must be Alberta residents and cannot receive the Jason Lang scholarship in the same year.
Languages in Teacher Education Scholarship
Purpose: To reward Alberta students enrolled in the Education program taking courses that will allow them to teach a language other than English in Alberta schools.
Value: $2500 – 16 scholarships are available across Alberta
Selection: The student must meet the criteria of being an Alberta resident and a full time student in their final two years of the Education program. They must be studying to teach in a language other than English and intending to teach that language in Alberta schools.

Laurence Decore Award for Student Leadership
Purpose: To recognize those post-secondary students who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and leadership to fellow students and to their community.
Value: $1000 – 1 nomination available
Selection: Applications may be submitted on the basis of involvement in either student government or student clubs or organizations, or non-profit community organizations. The Student Finance Committee will then evaluate the applications and nominate one name for the award. Students must be Alberta residents and current full time students.
Dr. Gary McPherson Leadership Scholarship
Purpose: To recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, especially in the area of disability, and/or initiative to improve the conditions and the lives of others.
Value: $2000 – 1 nomination available
Selection: Applications must include a resume highlighting leadership involvement, a reference letter, and a one page essay. The Student Finance Committee will then evaluate the applications and nominate one name for the award. Students must be Alberta residents and current full time students.
Indigenous Careers
Purpose: To encourage Indigenous Albertans (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) to pursue and complete post-secondary studies in Alberta.
Value: $2,000 per term
Selection: Recipients must be Alberta residents and provide proof of indigenous ancestry while enrolled as a full time student.
