What Help is Available for Writing Essays?
Assistance is offered to all students here at Burman University through multiple avenues:
- The Writing Centre (located in the library) is available to offer writing support services to all Burman students in all subject areas. More information on the Writing Centre can be found here.
- There is an English tutoring available through the Sakala Success Centre check with Crystal to find out times or if extra help is needed.
If I need a person to help me with my essay, what do I do?
Go to or call the Student Success Centre (403-782-3381 ext. 4141) and ask Crystal and she will be happy to refer you to a tutor. Just because this program is available to you doesn’t mean we won’t offer other help if it is needed.
How much does all this cost?
Nothing - these are services provided at no extra cost for all students.
When I get some help what should I bring to my appointment?
- Your work (preferably typed), with any notes you're using
- Your professor's description of the assignment - on a handout or syllabus, if you have one
- Any textbooks needed for your work (e.g. novel, course pack, literary anthology)
What if I have a tutor and I can't make it to my appointment?
Most tutor sessions are set up to accommodate a group, however, there are times when the tutoring is one on one, in which case you should attempt to contact the tutor as soon as possible. Leave a message if there is no answer. An unreasonable number of absences will result in the loss of tutor service. For more information call 403-782-3381 ext. 4141.
