Congratulations to Dr. McDowell
Congratulations to our Dean of Arts and Social Sciences and Professor of English, Dr. John McDowell who has recently been voted into membership of the Sculptors Society of Canada. This society s a charitable organization of professional artists who have completed their art training and are working as sculptors. Jurying of membership takes place annually and this year they invited John to join. The Society has a gallery in Toronto, and Dr. McDowell has been invited to submit work for its spring show for the month of March. Once again, John, great work in attaining this significant accomplishment and recognition in the Canadian art world.
Congratulations to Dr. Herr
And congratulations to Dr. Larry Herr, Professor of Religious Studies Emeritus. Not only has Larry completed a 10-volume review of his archaeological work in Jordan on the Madaba Plains Project and is working on the next volume, he has also been recognized by the Society of Biblical Literature through its publication, Review of Biblical Literature. Dr. Piotr Bienkowski, from the University of Manchester as well as the Cultural Heritage Museums, wrote a complimentary book review for volume 10 in the series, titled The 2006 Season at Tall al-ʿUmayri and Subsequent Studies Madaba Plains Project 10. His comments include, “another fine volume in this indispensable series. Very impressive”. These volumes represent a lifetime of work for Dr. Herr and his archaeological colleagues and are well-received in broader archaeological circles.
