Celebrating Black History Month

Black History Month at Burman is led by a collaboration of our students and the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Black History Month has been celebrated in Canada since 1976 and was officially recognized by the House of Commons in 1995.

During Black History Month, Canada recognizes the legacy of Black Canadians who have contributed to the shaping of the nation's heritage and cultural identity. Without their contribution, Canada's history would have been written differently. We also recognize Black Canadians all across Canada today who continue to enrich the heritage of our nation.

We encourage your participation in the various events on our campus during the month of February. These events are intended to be educational, informative, and commemorative.

Campus Visits

Last week the Conference Presidents and/or Ministerial Secretaries were also on campus interviewing our senior Religious Studies Pre-Profeesional students for positions in pastoral ministry across Canada. As well, the Youth Directors from across the SDACC were here interviewing students for summer employment opportunities in our youth camps across Canada. So, if you saw someone on campus you may not know, it might have been one of these individuals. If you have students in your classes, or in your work areas, who would be a good fit for any church employment opportunities, please encourage these students to connect with their department chair who can direct them to the appropriate individuals.

Board Meetings

This past Friday, the Board of Trustees met for its February meeting. As usual, the Board reviews the Board Ends and how they are being met, along with Financial information among other items. One of the highlights was having about 15 Campus Ministry student leaders describe their ministries and respond to questions on how each ministry is helping in the spiritual development of our students. To hear our students share their stories in this manner was very impactful.
